Back From NYC And Sad News

December 2nd, 2003 No comments

Back from New York. It was a cool trip, wish I could’ve stayed there and not come back to Miami.

We had some really sad news while on our trip. One of our rabbits, Duncan, passed away while we were away. I took him to the vet last Wednesday, before we left, cause he wasn’t eating and the doctor decided to hospitilize him for observation. He died Thursday, Thanksgiving night.
Duncan was probably the favorite of our rabbits. He was a rescue, and he always was very thankful of the life we gave him. He was sweet, curious and sometimes too smart for his own good. He had a temper, but rarely used it (only with Nuala, another of our rabbits). He always loved us, and allowed us the honor of petting him until our hands fell off.
He will be missed. May he be happy in the great rabbit burren in the sky.

I have been so busy

October 29th, 2003 No comments

Currently Reading
Desire of the Everlasting Hills: The World Before and After Jesus (Hinges of History (Paper), Vol 3)
By Thomas Cahill, Luann Walther

I have been so busy lately, and the saddest thing is that it has been with nothing of greatness, just your typical, little day-to-day crap. Work is fine, home is fine, everything’s fine. Just busy.

Reading now the third book in Thomas Cahill’s series, and it is excellent (just like his two previous ones).
Also, listening to Dido’s new album, “Life for Rent”. She’s great, period.

I actually got to game this past weekend! There was a con down here in Miami, and I managed to get the afternoon off to go geek out. Had fun. I miss gaming more.

Also, been writing lately. Well, more or less. There’s this story I wrote some 2 years ago called “20 Minutes and Streetlights” that has now resurfaced thanks to one of the songs in Dido’s new album (“White Flag” if you are wondering). There’s was something about that song that made me think of the couple in my story, and I found myself discovering that their story was not yet complete. So I have been devising a new story in my head, writing down some experiments to see how this new story is gonna go.
It’s weird how characters one creates sometimes do that, go ahead and keep living beyond whatever life you have given them in the story.
We’ll see how this goes. I think I am getting ready to start writing.

On the Gaming writing front things are slow, very slow. My adventure is now fighting for its life. It won’t be printed due to economics of the publishing company, so I am seeking alternatives, probably with electronic publishing. We’ll see how that goes. Beyond that, I am still enjoying my sabbatical from game writing. I have been tinkering with a personal project I have mentioned before. More on that later, when I am ready to make a formal announcement.

I think that’s all for now. Hopefully one day I will have time to do a real update to my website instead of directing people here for updates.

A lot has been going on lately

August 19th, 2003 No comments

So a lot has been going on lately.

We got a cat, a little kitten who found us one night. He was hurt, so we took him to the vet. We said we weren’t gonna keep him, but he had other plans. He’s now 6 weeks old, and acting as if nothing had ever happened to him (he had a really nasty wound on his right front leg). He’s black, so we called him “Le Chat Noir du Paris”, or Paris for short.

I’ve gotten some really good books in the last few months. I’m in the process of updating my website so I’ll let you know and you can go see them there.

Also, a great CD: La Oreja De Van Gogh (these people rock!), both their second and newest album. More on these later.

Work has been busy, but hey, I have a job, so it’s all good.

Haven’t really worked on my gaming writing lately. To be very honest, it doesn’t really interest me anymore, at least not right now. I do have one more project coming out in the Fall, and some material that may or may not make it into a book, so we’ll see. Still waiting for payment on the articles I wrote for Campaign Magazine.

Ah yes, one more thing: my new obsession is Genealogy. I got a family tree maker program and I am so into this now. On my wife’s side there has been some work like this done, but on my side there has been absolutely nothing. It’s slow work, but I’ve found out a lot so far.

Enough for now. It is freezing in my office, and I need to take one of the rabbits to the vet.

I had a really cool dream last night

April 23rd, 2003 No comments

I had a really cool dream last night, I mean the kind that if you write it down it would be an awesome novel or a really cool, offebeat film. Kinda David Lynch-y.

The horrible thing is that I don’t remember it. The alarm went off this morning as everything was coming to a close and threads were winding up. And I have forgotten most of it. I remember very clearly that it had to do with hair. Yes, hair. It was used as a vehicle for exploring individuality.

I gotta try to remember more. Perhaps I can write down enough bits to weave a new story out it.

As an aside, I am really diggin’ the new Evanescence song.

Got a job this week

March 21st, 2003 No comments

Got a job this week, doing office work for my father-in-law’s Orthopaedic equipment company. It’s good, not stressful and it pays. It helps that my father-in-law is my boss but doesn’t work in the same place as me. Family and work go together like oil and vinegar, and all that stuff.
