Introducing Our New Cat: Yoshi

September 30th, 2009 No comments

Yoshi Sunday, Sept. 20, as we were leaving the house to go to synagogue, a friend of our next-door neighbor suddenly asked us, “Have you seen my cat around?” We said no, and right then we hear a small meow come from the bushes right outside our apt. The lady got in there and suddenly comes out holding, not her cat, but a tiny black-and-white mass of wild and matted hair meowing its little heart out. I knew that one of the street cats had recently had her kittens under our building, so this must have been one of her litter. The kitty had gunk all over its left eye, so we washed it and put antibiotic drops in it (we have a box with all the pet medicines that are still good) and put it in the kennel while we went to synagogue for the Rosh Hashana services. When we got back we cleaned it a little more and at some point made the decision to keep it (I think it was when my Mother-in-Law did not think we were crazy for bringing in cat #3).

He (I was fairly sure it was a he, and the Vet confirmed it yesterday) spent a day without a name while we thought about it, but my wife found the perfect one: Yoshi (which in Japanese means “fortunate one” or something to that effect).

See, we believe that on the second day of Rosh Hashana, G-d judges the entire Creation (on the first day He judges the Jews), so for us to find this kitten in front of our apt on the second day of Rosh Hashana, especially as we’re leaving the house for prayers, means that this kitty’s judgment placed him right in our path (at least to us this is clear as day). So now we have three cats and we’re remembering the frustrations and the all-out fun that is having a kitten running around.

Fergus McFufu

November 13th, 2008 1 comment

I have posted pics of my cats before, but there are hardly that many pics of my rabbit, Fergus, so here are a couple:

Fergus & His Treat

Fergus

Here he’s playing with a log treat I gave him. Fergus’ nickname here is Spykiller, because he is suspicious of everything that comes into his area. He always eyes his food, especially if it’s something he doesn’t recognize, and every toy or treat gets tossed about a few times before he gives it more than cursory attention. This log, for example, got tossed about like a caber at a Highlands Games for a good five minutes before he decided any spies hiding inside would be dealt with and he could go and eat the treats inside.

He’s a good bunny, actually very docile, if a bit of a recluse. His time with us, however, may be coming to an end soon, as we are starting to look for a new home for him. My wife is allergic to rabbits (something we discovered 10 years ago when we got our first, Pele) and it has gotten worse with time, not to mention we still plan on moving to Seattle, and we would not be taking him with us. We’ve also realized that our prime bunny parents time has now passed, and that’s not fair to Fergus. So we enjoy his company while he remains with us, and hope to find him a very good home that will give him all the love and attention he deserves.

A lot has been going on lately

August 19th, 2003 No comments

So a lot has been going on lately.

We got a cat, a little kitten who found us one night. He was hurt, so we took him to the vet. We said we weren’t gonna keep him, but he had other plans. He’s now 6 weeks old, and acting as if nothing had ever happened to him (he had a really nasty wound on his right front leg). He’s black, so we called him “Le Chat Noir du Paris”, or Paris for short.

I’ve gotten some really good books in the last few months. I’m in the process of updating my website so I’ll let you know and you can go see them there.

Also, a great CD: La Oreja De Van Gogh (these people rock!), both their second and newest album. More on these later.

Work has been busy, but hey, I have a job, so it’s all good.

Haven’t really worked on my gaming writing lately. To be very honest, it doesn’t really interest me anymore, at least not right now. I do have one more project coming out in the Fall, and some material that may or may not make it into a book, so we’ll see. Still waiting for payment on the articles I wrote for Campaign Magazine.

Ah yes, one more thing: my new obsession is Genealogy. I got a family tree maker program and I am so into this now. On my wife’s side there has been some work like this done, but on my side there has been absolutely nothing. It’s slow work, but I’ve found out a lot so far.

Enough for now. It is freezing in my office, and I need to take one of the rabbits to the vet.
