Hal Mangold to Layout True20 Ancients: Rome

December 4th, 2009 Comments off

true20ancientsAfter what seems like an entire historical epoch, True20 Ancients: Rome is finally seeing some progress.

Hal Mangold, layout guru for Green Ronin Publishing and El Jefe over at Atomic Overmind Press, has signed on to do the layout for True20 Ancients: Rome. Given how Hal created the look for True20 to begin with, I think we can expect this book to be a treat for the eyes (as well as a treat for the table with all those awesome True20 rules by Matthew Kaiser under the editing stylings of Spike Y Jones).

Personally, I am both relieved that this book is finally getting some love after the hiatus it found itself in this year, and downright ecstatic to finally have a chance to work with Hal.

It will still be a bit longer before there’s samples to show you and we can announce a release date. Thanks for your patience and support.

GTS Day 1 – What a strange place Vegas is…

April 23rd, 2008 No comments

Hey all. Just sending a quick hi from GTS in Las Vegas.

Yes, those are slot machines in the airport, right outside my gate…

What a weird place this is; so fake, so constructed, so artificial. Everything is AN EXPERIENCE!!! But it’s just a facade, and honestly, a very thin one, too. I’ll have more to say once I get back; right now I have to use the most of my time here for biz stuff (and I start my Day 2 account with a quick trip to Kinko’s to print business card, since I left mine in Miami – doh!).

The trade show is going good, and Pulp Gamer has been kicking ass in getting awesome podcasting coverage. Today I will be doing some interviews as well (hopefully). Fear the Boot’s Dan ReppergerĀ is here as well (schmoozing like a pro), as is Ed Healy from Dark Whisper (or as he is better known, the Kobold Quarterly Ad-Pimp Master), Fred HicksĀ from That’s How We Roll, The Butcher Block and Evil Hat, Chris Hanrahan from 2d6 Feet in a Random Direction, and Allan Sugarbaker from OgreCave Audio Report. A podcaster takeover could very well happen; watch the gaming news just in case.

WotC is being tight-lipped about the 4e GSL and its ramifications, Paizo is secretly dancing the fandango, Green Ronin is cursing WotC for out-staging their press release about the True20 open license, and the World of Warcraft pre-painted minis are OMG incredible.

More later. Have fun.

No True20 Setting Submission

September 5th, 2005 No comments

I just got an email from the writer that was working on what was to be our setting submission to Green Ronin’s True20 Setting Search. The writer feels really strong that what he has right now is not strong enough for the submission, mainly due to need for more word count to further explore new concepts of this setting. I am okay with his decision as I believe it’s better to pass than submit an incomplete setting.

So right now Highmoon Media is without an entry for a possible True20 license, and there’s just not enough time for me to write up Bardic Lore as a possible setting, especially because I am not 100% sure how exactly I will end up handling the True20 engine along with the additions I want to make. I also decided long ago to keep Project Shirah as d20 Modern rather than convert it to True20.

I’m not bothered by this, I have to say. The True20 license you’d win through the setting search would only be for support of that setting, and I am more interested in publishing world-neutral supplements for the game engine. I may yet start dual-statting all our original products with True20 mechanics and let word of mouth take care of spreading that knowledge (along with a vague reference to the system). We’ll see.
